A British man caused panic among friends, family, and even hospital staff after waking up one morning with his entire body turned bright blue.
Tommy Lynch, a 42-year-old builder from Derbyshire, England, had recently received a new set of navy-blue bedsheets as a gift. Without thinking much of it, he put them straight on his bed and slept in them for two nights without washing them first.
When Tommy woke up after an unusually long 14-hour sleep, he felt exhausted but didn’t immediately notice anything unusual. That changed when his friend stopped by and was shocked by what he saw.
According to Tommy, his skin had turned a deep shade of blue from head to toe. Concerned something was seriously wrong, his friend urged him to seek medical attention immediately.
Tommy later arrived at the hospital, where staff were reportedly stunned by his appearance. Doctors rushed to evaluate him, fearing he could be suffering from a serious medical condition affecting his oxygen levels or circulation.
The mystery continued until a nurse prepared to draw blood and wiped Tommy’s arm with an alcohol swab. To everyone’s surprise, the swab came away blue.
That’s when the real culprit was discovered.
The dye from the brand-new bedsheets had transferred onto Tommy’s skin while he slept, leaving him looking like a character straight out of a science-fiction movie.
Once the misunderstanding was cleared up, the mood quickly shifted from panic to laughter. Tommy and the medical staff reportedly couldn’t stop laughing at the bizarre mix-up.
Even after leaving the hospital, the story wasn’t over. Tommy said he spent days scrubbing off the dye, and his bathwater continued turning blue for nearly a week.
The unusual incident has since gone viral online, with many people admitting they had no idea new bedsheets should be washed before first use.
